Sparkly Star Boy

The article just a load of rubbish about how Amy Winehouse is always there supporting Tyler James. TJ, you might remember, supported McFly on one of their tours (Wonderland was it?). I think he got dropped by his label (he went down like a lead balloon at the McFly tour) but he seems to have made a reappearance, possibly on The Voice? He's trying for the sympathy votes by barking on about his dead mate by the looks of things.

Anyway, the important thing is that you can see Tom on the above photo, which also features Tyler and Amy (both circled) and Jon Lee from S Club 7. Sweet. Love the outfit Tom *smirk*

After more than their fair share of reality tv shows, McFly have decided they can win anything, and are back on tour chasing those female hearts that propelled them to supergroup status almost a decade ago. With anarchy wild amongst the largely female audience, and shouts of "We don't care," rather than "Burn your bra," the four-piece on their Keep Calm And Play Louder tour certainly fulfilled the second part of that agreement. There was not a lot of calm in the house, with the seated crowd rebelling and swarming the front of the stage, whilst the two upper tiers bounced in unity, in an attempt to get themselves 100ft closer to their idols.
McFly may have lost their denim cut-offs and puppy fat, but it would seem their voices are still to break in the whiney tones of  *** *** *** *****. Maintaining their Animaniac energy regardless of their new muscular physique, the sing-a-long crowd were probably similar to those who'll be attending Girls' Day Out at The SECC next weekend. The happy-go-lucky **** **** and * ***** **** *** kept the candyfloss high on the go, with the audience going wilder for a guitar solo than a 10% off day at Topshop.
Musically the four-piece cannot really be faulted, with their impressive harmonies and flawless playing. They are just incredibly irritating if you're not a McFly fan, and I can now confirm, if you weren't one to start with, seeing the pop-punkers all grown-up and live is in no way going to change your opinion. In this case it has only cemented it. Chatting with the crowd between tracks full of cheeky-chappie humour, they slag Dougie Poynter for his jungle win before shouty new track ** *******. Sending the two middle-aged woman next to me into the start of their zumba marathon for the remainder of the show, I should probably just be pleased it wasn't powerhoop they were into.
Another new track, ***, is proudly introduced, a notable attempt at stepping into big boy territory with the extra synth and heavy bass on this track. Said to be their next single and involving a lot of jumping, the heavier track goes down well with fans who look happy to graduate into this pseudo electro-rock territory. Racing through their top hits and five albums, ********* and *** ***** *** keep the crowd bounding before throwing even more hits into the set for a covers medley. Beginning with their own ********* *****, they meander into Bon Jovi, Rihanna and Gotye to name a few, with no rocking the crowd to bedtime as now they're all grown up only the bar awaits. After the surf-pop and slick moves of * *******, McFly leave fans hanging in their boy band era with their last top-ten single ***** * *****. With rumours of their sixth album being released shortly, let's just hope McFly grown-up don't infect the nation as they did eight years ago. Bieber Fever is enough to content with these days.

This is the worst review I've read in a long while, they are nothing like this and speaking as a fan who has seen them on pretty much every tour they have ever done this is their best tour by miles!

CHART-TOPPING boy band McFly play the first of their two contrasting 2012 gigs in York on Tuesday. That night they will perform indoors at York Barbican, where very few standing tickets – 12 at the time of going to press – remain available for their Up Close And Personal Tour date. Doors open at 7pm for the chance to see 2011 Strictly Come Dancing winner and drummer Harry Judd, 2011 I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here winner and bass player Dougie Poynter with joint lead vocalists Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones. This summer, McFly will return to the city for the Music Showcase Weekend at York Racecourse, where they will take to the stage after the last race of the Sky Bet York Stakes meeting on Saturday, July 28. As many as 40,000 people are expected to flock to the Knavesmire course that afternoon. “We really enjoy playing racecourses and, because we’ve heard there’s always an incredible atmosphere at York Races, we are especially looking forward to performing,” says Harry.
• Tickets for Tuesday need to be booked pronto on 0844 854 2757, while race-day tickets for July 28 are on sale on 01904 620911.

Hammersmith Review *SPOILERS REMOVED*

Starting with ******* **** ** ***, which incidentally was quite appropriate given that we were all as squished as sardines and literally had nowhere to which we could run the show provided thrill after thrill with McFly performing a selection of songs from all their albums including three from their new album which is to be released later this year. Having not heard the new songs before this concert I can honestly say that they are all amazing in every sense of the word although my current favourite has to be *** which had me jumping the whole way through. As all good bands should McFly sent me on a rollercoaster ride with my emotions even managing to get me in floods of tears- for the first time ever during a concert - when they grouped together in the middle of the stage to sing ** *******, a truly beautiful song. However, unfortunately, after what seemed like only five minutes of them being on stage it came time for McFly to bid us farewell as they picked up their instruments and sang their final song of the night which, to my great pleasure, was ***** * *****, a real favourite of mine!

Overall despite the boredom of queuing up for hours and the fact that at times it was uncomfortable, to put it mildly whilst standing, it was an absolutely amazing concert and one which I was sorry to say goodbye to, especially as I don’t have any more McFly concerts booked for the near future! I would recommend this McFly concert to anyone and everyone and whilst I know time is running out on this tour if you can still get tickets do because I promise that you won’t regret it. Meanwhile if you can’t get tickets for this tour make sure you buy tickets for their next tour which knowing McFly will no doubt be bigger and better than anything they have ever done before!

Dat Sum RizzleFly War Or Summing*

Posted by Kel McGowan on April 12, 2012 at 12:35 PM Comments comments (0)

After Rizzle Kicks slammed McFly comparisons, we were wondering how long it took for one of the band to laugh the comments off. Tom Fletcher took to Twitter to make a joke about Rizzle Kicks' comments about McFly. He said: "So @RizzleKicks are the hip-hop version mcfly?..........I thought we were hip-hop?" [sic]

We like Tom's funny response after the Rizzle Kicks lads took the comparisons between them and McFly very much to heart. When Rizzle Kicks were asked what they thought about being billed the 'hip hop version of McFly,' Jordan responded: "Oh my God. I'll punch whoever said that. Hip-hop McFly? Was it that guy from The Guardian? I'm gonna find him." He continued: "You get reviews and that, people too wrapped up in their own impartial journalistic opinion to enjoy themselves. The way that was worded, it was really bad." Oh dear.

We can think of worse people to be compared with, though. McFly have had a rather successful year. Not only did Dougie Poynter win I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, but Harry Judd also walked away with the Strictly Come Dancing crown, too. Add to that the sell-out reunion tour, we'd imagine the boys are pretty happy with things right now.

*What an absolute load of bollocks. Trying to make a bigger deal out of this than there is. There's no war between Rizzle Kicks and McFly  If I were Rizzle Kicks, I'd want to be described as my own artist not a copy of another group from a different genre like the 'metal version of Eminem' or the 'country version of Pavarotti'. No wonder they're peeved. They're not hitting out at McFly, they have no 'beef' with them and Tom obviously gets the joke. Shame the media don't.

Hammersmith Review SONG SPOILERS REMOVED

Posted by Kel McGowan on April 10, 2012 at 5:00 PM Comments comments (0)

When I first stepped off the train at hammersmith, which by the way was a chore in itself, I was hit with the disappointing sight of thousands of fans already queueing for hours to get inside. I was upset as I knew the venue would be packed and I thought I wouldn't be able to see. But as I was queueing I noticed all the excited people who were just as anxious as I was to see Mcfly. A fanbase that is always very welcoming and kind. It didn't take long to get inside the venue, and when I did I was hit by just how many people were inside. The place was packed and it wasn't exactly small there was easily s couple thousand people from what I could see not counting the balcany's.

As expected at any gig, the atmosphere was relaxed and causal before any of the supprot acts came on and the floor was spacious and movable. Once the first support act, ivyrise, started playing people started packing in to gets a good view. Ivyrise were good, they played songs of there's that were generally unknown but they still captured the attention of the audience, I was quite happily dancing and listening to them. When they were finnnished the atmosoher, intesified and people were just starting to get excited. More people started piling in and I was starting to get impatiant. The second support act dive Bella dive were less impressive and the front man I thought was a little over zelous and abnoxious. However the crowd were pleased and ready for Mcfly.

When the band did come on stage they opened with ******* **** ** *** which was well received by the crowd. I felt this song as a brilliant choise to get the audience up and moving and it did it's job. Everyone there was up and moving singing along to the entire song. The energy from the band on stage was fantasatic, they were jumping and running through the entire thing and looked like they were having the time of their lives which really makes a difference to a performance, to see the people you have paid to see actually want to be on that stage for you and wanting to make every single person in that room happy.

All the songs were well rehearsed and cleanly exicuted with no mistakes. The set list consisting of songs like ******* **** ** ***, ********, **** **** and some new songs like ***, were brilliantly designed to keep everyone moving and singing the whole night. Filling the instrument changes was Dougie Poynter, just talking a the audience and making the whole gig feel more intimate and special. Calling Tom by the nickname 'tea bag' having the crowd in fits of laughter and making everyone feel part of the joke.

Every song they played was superb quality and flowed smoothly. The new martial had a edgy grown up feel and is different from what people think of when they think Mcfly, I feel this is a very good direction for the band to go in for them to grow and mature as artists. When they played * ******* ** *** **** the crowd went wild everyone were jumping and screaming until the song finished. The boys went off stage and you could feel the atmosphere drop as everyone wanted the night to continue. To save the night Danny Jones walked on stage and played an acoustic version of **** ** *** *** to settle the crowd down then for the final song they played ***** * *****. This was one of my favourite songs and ended the night beautifully.

Everyone was stood up and singing swaying and hugging each other. It was a lovely sight to see so many people connected by one band and one love. The band then finished with a massive thanks to the audience and fans for letting them do this as a job and it really showed the compsssion and gratefulness of the band. The whole night was full of good music and wonderful people. I had an amazing time and would recommend anyone who hasn't seen McFly live before because they are missing out on a night out to remember.

Hammersmith Review SONG SPOILERS REMOVED

The act: McFly

The venue: HMV Apollo, Hammersmith.

Why?: 2011 was a success for McFly, even if they didn’t release any new music. With Dougie crowned King of the Jungle on I’m a Celebrity and Harry shimmying his way to victory on the Strictly dancefloor, these two achievements helped get them back in the public eye. And what better way to cash in on this raised profile than to announce a new tour around the time of these competitions – KERCHING.

The music: This was basically a Greatest Hits tour except in name with a splattering of older and newer material. Although I find it difficult to name individual McFly song titles, once the likes of ********* and *** ***** ***were being performed I was chanting away perfectly. A medley of surprising covers ranging from * ***** ***** **** ******** by ******* ******* and **** **** by former arch-rivals ****** added a welcome sense of variety. They also unveiled new tracks ***, a spectacular rock anthem and the emotional ***** *** **** which held teenage girls in a mascara-streaming reverie.

The banter: McFly give Jedward a run for their money in the “hyperactive childish banter” stakes. For instance it was decided that Tom Fletcher’s new nickname was “Teabag” for the simple excuse that he could announce “You’ve just been teabagged” to the audience after a song. Quite often the band would take about 5 minutes break between songs just through fannying about on stage and chatting to each other. They manage to get away with behaviour which would horrify the fans of other artists simply because it never looks like they’re having anything other than unadulterated fun.

The crowd: SO many teenage girls. Attempting to do some maths – if McFly have been going for nearly 9 years many of these fans were first listening to their music as they learnt to read. That or there’s some serious Benjamin Button shit going on.

Any surprises?: The sheer power and effectiveness of ***. It’s quite something. Here’s hoping it turns out to be a new single as it would catch everyone off-guard.

The question you all want to ask: Did they get naked?

The answer: Considering that “nudity” seems to be part of the McFly remit these days, it was surprising that they managed to keep their clothes on. Harry did flex his MASSIVE GUNS quite a bit which had everyone squealing.

McFly Fans Camp In Street

Posted by Kel McGowan on April 10, 2012 at 4:55 PM Comments comments (0)

Dedicated fans of boy band McFly camped outside the Corn Exchange for two days waiting for the objects of their desire. Helene Clement, 26, and Julie Soyer, 21, travelled all the way from London to pitch their tents outside the venue in Cambridge on Sunday - but they weren't the first to arrive. A tent filled with Spanish women had beaten them to it and were already in prime position on the steps of the concert hall to make sure they would be at the front of the stage when the pop group, named after the character Marty McFly from the 1985 movie Back to the Future, perform tonight (april 10).

But the group, who braved chilly temperatures, were soon joined by around ten eager girls - ready to scream, shout and dance the night away to the sounds of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd. Sisters Jade, 18, and Bryony Clark, 16, from Fulbourn, were so keen to see their favourite group they arrived at 9am today with a duvet and food supplies delivered to them by their mum throughout the day. Julie Soyer, a language assistant from France currently working at a school in Hampshire, told the News: "I have seen them about 25 times. We made sure were early because at bigger venues you usually get about 50 people camped before you- but here we were one of the first. The staff at the venue have been really friendly and let us camp here - I think they understand our dedication."
